It Ends with Us 3/Reminders of Him 3

What components does your book have to make it a page-turner?  Or was this book a little slow to get started?  Was there a point where you just couldn't put it down?  Or did you struggle getting through it?  Please provide examples.

  1. This book was interesting and engaging from the first page. Colleen's books are very fast paced. And I'm kind of sad that I wont get to read this book for the first time again. It ends with us was a page turner because Ryle was unpredictable. He would be so kind and helpful and then the next minute snap. He made me very upset when I got to the part of the book where he would start to get violent with her. And then when he wouldnt communicate with her and just assumed the worst of her and Atlas. I never once struggled to get through this book. I was reading in other classes and at home. I kind of replaced going on my phone in my spare time with reading this book. I loved it so much. This book started right off with Lily and Ryle meeting and I'm kind of mad at myself for liking Ryle in the beginning. Justice was not served for his actions and the ending left me with a lot of questions. People knew that he was the one that hit her and that he was the one abusing her. He still got to be a surgeon and he still got to be a dad. That's another part where I couldnt put the book down is when Lily had to go to the hospital after an attack which is a part where I couldn't put it down in the first place but then we find out that she is pregnant with Ryle's child. This book is one of my new favorites and I would rate it 5/5 stars.

    1. I disagree; I don't think the book was fast paced. There were scenes where events were happening, but none of it contributed to the story. For example: the scenes where Lily and Ryle go out on a date and then have sex. There is no need to explain through every step and detail of these; the narrator simply could have told the audience that these events happened. Because of scruples like this, the story really lagged for me, and it was hard to get through many parts.

    2. I kind of like that he was allowed to be a father I was interested to see him interact with his daughter and see how he would do anything to protect her. Although some part of me is a bit confused about how I don't see him getting in trouble for abusing her. While abusing someone is about one of the worst things a person can do I think I liked Ryles character and I have more of the "Good peoplee do bad things" quote in mind but he shouldve had something happen dare is say maybe his punishment was not having Lilly?

    3. I agree with you! I loved this book and often couldn't put it down. I also thought Ryle was unpredictable. I really liked Ryle until he started hurting Lily and then he started making me upset.

    4. Personally I had a hard time taking this book seriously. It was just too ironic and unrealistic for me in their characters. Ryle never really stole my heart because of how confident and sometimes cocky he was, and their whole relationship was never really my style, so I wasn't very attached.

  2. This book really surprised me by being a page turner. With most books to get to the end I find myself getting bored but with this one it was easy for me to turn the page just to try and get more of this interesting story. Straight out from the beginning on the roof scene with Ryle and Lilly it was captivating to read how they got each other from that brief interaction. And while their whole "naked truth" scenes were kind of cheesy they honestly made me interested cause you never know what the other would say like when Ryle told Lilly of how he shot his brother and tried putting his insides back in his head, while morbid I was hooked to the book the whole time. The only parts I found sort of slow was when Lilly was pregnant because her and Ryle weren't talking and when they did it was Slow paced and not really in a captivating way and while pregnant, she didn't tell her mom so everything during that pregnancy was just waiting to tell which made it really boring. But other than little parts like that I couldn't stop reading which is very unusual for me.

    1. I can understand why you felt engaged with the book, but for me, I had a different experience. To me, the story wasn't exciting or interesting enough for me to go out of my way to read. The only parts I would go out of my way to read (or even find enjoyment thinking about) were the journal scenes. Those, I actually enjoyed, and I wish the book had less of everything except for the journals.
The roof scene was, perhaps, my least favorite scene. It felt generic and predictable, and it wasn't very captivating to me.
I agree that the part where Lily was pregnant was slow. Honestly, it wasn't very interesting.

    2. I 100% agree. I loved this book and it was very easy for me to get into. The story line was good and I got hooked on it right away. I agree that it was also a little cheesy. I also found it easy to picture but also a little bit predictable. I'm not going to lie though I found it a little slow in some spots, but I was never not engaged in what was happening.

    3. I agree with you. I loved this book, and it was also a page turner for me. I also think the naked truths put a little bit of mystery to the book and were a little cheesy. I really enjoyed reading this book.

    4. I agree this book was definitely a page turner, but also slow at some spots. I was intrigued with the journals and how Lily and Ryle first met. It was a little predictable, but overall, I finished the book easily, and really enjoyed it.

  3. For me, the book was hard to get through at first. There was a lot of fluff that I had to skim over to get to points that were meaningful to the book. The author's writing style did not agree with my taste. I wish she would have been more concise, and I wish she would have not included scenes or descriptions that weren't important to the story. However, her ideas were good (when they weren't being buried by her craft-less writing style).
The parts that I considered a "page-turner" were the journal entries where the narrator talks about Atlas and her past. Those parts were engaging and well done.
The parts where Lily was getting to know Ryle were hard for me to consume. He seemed like a typical male love interest in any generic dime novel romance. He also lacked a genuine and engaging personality. Having to read multiple scenes about their "wonderful" relationship was boring and pointless. In the first half of the book, her daily life sounded fun and appealing, but it didn't make an interesting story.
About halfway through the book, I came to realize why the author made Ryle seem like a generic dream-boy; he isn't meant to be with Lily. He is a catalyst for making her realize the ins and outs of domestic abuse. I only wish the author didn't spend half a book before getting to this point.

    1. Okay I agree and disagree with some of your statements I felt as though some of those needless parts needed to be added to advance the understanding of the storyline. The journal entries were kind of boring for me personally just because I don't like that certain writing style and without bias, I believe the journal entries were somewhat basic.

    2. I agree with you on a lot of this. Ryle never blew me away and their whole relationship just wasn't very intriguing for me, I wanted to see some more struggle beyond just the abuse. I wasn't crazy about the journals just because I didn't like how they written and they felt not realistic to a 15 year old.

  4. the only part when i wanted to read more was when ryle and lily got in fights and when lily was playing poker at atlas house. the book was very slow to start i think there could have been more action in the being besides lily breaking her ankle. i struggled to get through it because there were so many unesasary details and other points in the book.

  5. This novel was a page turner from the beginning. The book started off with Lily and Ryle meeting and from there I wanted to find out how he would come to play in the book. I thought this book was very fast paced and I really enjoyed reading this book. There were many parts throughout the whole book that I couldn't put it down. I loved reading about Atlas in Lily's journals. I liked reading about her past and how the journals about her father and Atlas come to be really important to her present life. I often couldn't put the book down because I wanted to know what would happen to Ryle and Lily's relationship and how they would improve or not as a couple. I liked reading about Lily's pregnancy and I really liked how Alyssa and Lily still stayed best friends even after what happened between Lily and Ryle.

    1. I agree. The whole book I was waiting to find out what happened to Atlas and Lily's dad. I felt like I was almost investigating the journals and just looking for answers. I also found it hard to put down. I also liked that Lily and Alyssa stayed friends and that things looked like they were civial between Ryle and Lily.

    2. I agree, the whole book was a page turner. Right from the start she had met Ryle, but you learned about the journals of Lily and Atlas, and you just knew that it would play a very important role. After Lily had seen Atlas at the restaurant with Ryle, you just wanted to keep reading to find out how all of this would unroll.

    3. Yes, I really liked how the journals tied into the book, with Atlas and the abusive household Lily grew up in. I liked wondering how Ryle and Lily would end up, or if she would ever go back to Atlas. This book was a page-turner for sure.

  6. Throughout the whole book I just wanted to keep reading and figuring out how Kenna's life would unfold after prison. She had no one to go to once she got out and was all on her own. She never knew what would come out of going into the, what she thought was, bookstore. I really wanted to keep reading the closer she got to meeting Diem. She had been through so much and I think people hated on her way too much for not knowing the real story of what happened that night, and all the trauma she had to go through. I think this book was also a page turner, because you never knew for sure if she would be able to meet her daughter, as it would be a possibility, but then Grace would throw a curveball.

  7. This book was a bit predictable for me. I found myself laughing at serious situations just because of how ironic they were. Like Lily and Ryle when they share their love for each other, I just found it funny. He's a million dollar hot surgeon who's sister owns a whole floor of an apartment and works for Lily Blossom Bloom who owns a flower shop. I found it a little dumb and unrealistic which made me not take it very seriously when it was supposed to be serious. This made it a little difficult to get through the book. However towards the end I was interested. I admit her lack of clarity on how she was going to handle the situation with Ryle kept me intrigued long enough to get through the story.

    1. I agree, it was very predictable at some parts, but I think that I like that in a book. Not everything is such a huge surprise, and it satisfied me to know that I was right about how a situation would turn out.

  8. This book immediately intrigued me with the first page being Lily sitting on the edge of a roof. Then introducing Ryle and their deep conversation as strangers. There was not a moment in this book that I was bored or wanted to stop reading. I think that if I was not a fan of romance, I would definitely have a different response, but I thought this was a great book with a good lesson in it.

  9. The beginning of this book was a page-turner for me because I felt like I was just getting to know the characters and i found the time jumps an interesting concept to write about but about halfway through the book when atlas and Ryle were both in the picture I felt like I know that Ryle was going to turn out as a bad guy so it made me less interested in the novel.
