No Exit 2
Do you believe in 100 years, this novel will be considered a "classic"? Will it stand the test of time and be something that students will be reading in an English class of the future? Why or why not?

I would say no. While I think it's a great book that many people should read, I'm not sure it has enough of an ending lesson to be considered a classic. Along with that, many people are not made to read stories that have this much blood and gore in detail, making it hard to be a book that future students would read in class. Though I think its a great story that many people would thoroughly enjoy it doesn't quite have the right characteristics to be considered a classic. If the plot was more well suited to readers of all types and had a strong lesson of morality I would say it could be because of how well written it is. However that strong gore is also what makes it good and I feel as though it would be detrimental to the book to lose that part.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the fact that it was a good book there are just some elements in the book that make it not for everyone.
DeleteI believe it has somewhat of a lesson like do what's right no matter what, but the message isn't really conveyed. But the heartfelt moment at the end when we get to read of Darby and Jay etching her mom's grave is really sweet and can say a great message.
DeleteI agree. I also don't think this book will become a classic because of the gore.
DeleteI don't think this book would be considered a classic. Its a really good book but it has lots of gore and blood and I don't think this book would appeal to many readers. The theme of this book is good but it doesn't have as great of a meaning as many other books we read in English class do. This book was a very enjoyable book to read and I read it super fast but I don't think in 100 years it will be considered a classic.
ReplyDeleteI agree with this. The strong themes of gore would drag people away and the big lesson isn't as indirectly pushed as other classic type novels. It's still a great book, it just needs a more exclusive group of readers.
DeleteI agree. It was very descriptive and I don't know the real message to go with the book. It was a great read but I can't see it being read for a class.
DeleteI think i may be a classic because its a very easy book to get into and read but the gory parts hold it back from being a classic because not many people like gore so the book will be harder for them to get into the book but in a 100 years this book will not be a classic because a 100 years is a long time and there are more and more classic every day that are better.
ReplyDeleteI agree that it's very easy to get in to but it won't be a classic. There isn't as much of a life lesson in this book than there are other novels and I think personally that's what I would need to define something as a classic.
DeleteI agree. This book got right into the plot and was very easy to read. It was a good read but not something I could see being read in class. The lesson was something that we have been told our entire lives and we didn't really get anything new to live by.
DeleteI don't think gore really matters when it comes to classic works. Classics can be as bloody, kinky, and weird as possible and they'll still be cherished by millions. For example, A Clockwork Orange and American Psycho are both extremely explicit, yet they're treasured as classics.
DeleteI don't think that this book will become a classic, I did enjoy reading the book but the story just does not have the punch that I would like. because the main bad guys became so untrustworthy I felt like there was nothing they could do to surprise me, there's nothing different from other good kidnapping stories.
ReplyDeleteI agree this book was a great read, and I enjoying reading it. I liked the story line, and I think it was written good. I think it won't become a classic too, because again it was just like any kidnapping story, and I agree to become a classic it would have needed just something more.
DeleteI would have to say that in 100 years I can't see this book being a classic. I was never bored but there are so many stories similar to it. I could not figure out what was truly special with this book other than to go with your gut. I was never bored and I always liked reading it but it doesn't have that effect on me where I can't read another book for 3 days because I'm hung up on this one. I don't think this will be a book that classes will read in the future. It just has the same story as every other abduction book.
ReplyDeleteyes, I 1000% agree this isn't the type of book that a majority of people will get hung up on and be talking about it for days on end. Like is said while compelling it was a typical mystery book that doesn't stand apart from the rest. Not taking anything away from the book it was still great with just the right amount of plot twists, but it was still average in all.
DeleteI agree this book will not be a classic. There was many plot twists and action scenes, but overall, this genre of book is not everyone's first choice. I also enjoyed reading it, but again I agree it was sort of just like any other abduction book.
DeleteI agree. I don't think this book will be considered a classic. There are many interesting parts of this book, but the genre doesn't always appeal to everyone.
DeleteI don't think that in a hundred years it will truly be considered a "classic," but I do think it will still be read, just not in English class. This book is a fairly well written mystery novel and is a very captivating story that a lot of people might want to read so yes, I believe there is a good chance that this book could be read in 100 years' time. As for a classic no it will not. I don't know how to say it won't be on it just won't usually a typical murder mystery doesn't catch people attention. I can see it being a classic to a certain except only because it's also a movie but that's it.
ReplyDeleteAs I've said for basically every book I've read so far, most likely no. The burden to reach the title of "Classic" is so incredibly high and unpredictable. The story is no doubt good, but it doesn't have the type of cult following that books like Scythe, Dune, and Harry Potter. Classics require a mix of good narrative, big ideas, and popularity in order to rise to fame. this book has the good narrative, but lacks the massive popularity and big ideas. The story is good, but simple and base level, it doesn't provide any ideas to chew on, but the events of the book are captivating enough that it doesn't matter.
ReplyDeleteWell said; it lacks many factors that go into making a classic. I think its value isn't in making a message, but entertaining an audience.
DeleteIn my opinion, I don't think I see this book becoming a classic. While I thought it was a good book and a very fun read, I can't see it being read in English classes, or this type of book being one that everyone would want to read. It has a lot of gore and blood, which isn't appealing to everyone. This book kept me wanting to read more, but I think there would have to be something more to have it separated from being just any other abduction book and becoming a classic.
ReplyDeleteI agree, the gore is definitely not for everyone. It was a really good read, but it was just another thriller.
DeleteNo; the book serves more as a cheap thriller rather than an impactful story. It's enjoyable to read, but that's about it. There's not really a lesson to be taken away. Its purpose is to entertain its reader , not to change their lives. I think it does a very good job at being entertaining, and I hope many other people in the future have the chance to read it, and that its title doesn't disappear too soon.
ReplyDeleteI also did not find any lesson that could be taken away from it. It was written to entertain, not impact it's audience.
DeleteI do not think this book will be considered a classic in the future. I couldn't really identify a specific, meaningful lesson in it and I feel it was written mainly for the entertainment. Although it was a really great story, it just did not have the right characteristics of a classic.
ReplyDeletethis book could become a classic because it is easy to start and it was a page turner and it relates to real world events. all though it does get bloodly in some parts and not a lot of people like gory stuff and murder.
