this novel is a good example of young adult litturiture because the subject matter being the scandles of Evelyn Hugo's life opens up the ideas that even though you may do some things wrong at the end of the day what matters is where you are.
I agree with this, because everyone makes mistakes, but how you end up at the end of the day, and what you did to make up for the mistakes is overall what really matters.
I agree with this lots of her scandals she faced while taking place back then can still somewhat take place today in present times. Furthermore, people of today's generation could relate with those scandals.
This novel is a good example of contemporary young adult literature because it shows modern day struggles of the scandals that Evelyn faced and that no matter how many mistakes you make, you can overcome it.
I agree with you, because it doesn't matter how many mistakes you made, or the things you did, it is what you did after, to become a better person and make up for what you did wrong.
I kind of disagree only because when they were in modern times in the book, they didn't really talk about how the outside world perceived her all that much. They just stated she was a legend from the 50's so we don't know if the audience knew of her struggles.
The novel is a good example of young adult literature, because it shows struggles of Evelyn that could be struggles of people today. It shows how no matter the struggles, or mistakes you make, wherever you are at the end of the day, and how hard you try to be the best person you can is all that matters.
I semi disagree with this. Evelyn knew her actions were wrong and she was okay with that. She even said she'd do them again to get her outcome. Though I think what she did helped her to stay true to who she was, I wouldn't say that it was her trying to be the best version of herself.
I am torn on whether id consider this a good example of a young adult literature novel or not. I don't believe this book caters to teens but at the same time it does have some elements that a significant amount of teens could be interested in/ relate to. Certain subjects of the book like alcohol abuse, love, drama, and loss are things teens can relate to. This book also gives a great message to not only teens but adults saying to not worry about the "ifs, buts, or what could have been" but to just live the life you want to live while you have the chance.
yes, it would be a good example of young adult contemporary literature mainly because its relevant in time because it came out March 12, 2022, meaning its relevant to yacl.
I think this story is a great example of contemporary young adult literature through its themes like LGBTQ relationships and it's openness about sex. These topics are something the world is slowly opening up about and this book definitely helps push that. I think lot's of teens can relate to a hardship Evelyn or Monique faced in one way or another. Between being biracial, gay, in poverty, love, drama, there is something here for everyone. It openness about traditionally taboo subjects is what makes it contemporary literature for me. It pushes the idea of doing things without fear and judgement which I think is a great lesson to learn.
I agree this book covers thing that were considered not good back in the time frame where Evelyn is telling her life. I think that the book does a good job of giving you a prospective of what it was like. I think that lots of people can relate to the topics in this book and I think this book does a great job of protraying them.
It's a good example because of it's modern themes and for specific plot elements. The elements include things such as the story largely revolving around Hollywood, this allows the story to be more accessible, because most people know something about Hollywood, as it's a familiar location/industry. The themes include things such as Loyalty and Self-Understanding. The story revolves around many LGBT+ characters, and has them coming to terms with themselves and how the world sees them. It
I agree with the "self-understanding" part. As Evelyn gets older, she realizes nothing with make her as happy and having her true love with her and she starts to see that the fame was making her actually happy even if she thought it did.
I think that this book is a good example of contemporary young adult literature. It covers modern topics that people are openly addressing and talking about now such as LGBTQ+ communities, child abuse and neglect, and corruption in the film industry. This book covers topics that at one time were not talked about and have been around and will be around forever. We are now at a time in society where we can openly talk about these topics.
It's a good example because it has love, hate, and regret. It shows how life was back versus modern time. It has modern book topics in it like abuse, a true love story, and even LGBTQ+. It shows how a person and grow and change and also how a person won't change at all no matter how much time they have to do so.
I didn't even think of change as being a prominent theme, but that makes sense with the story. Especially how resolute Evelyn was about her choices and how unforgiving Monique was to Evelyn.
One of the most prominent themes in the novel is reality vs. the perception of the media. I think this theme applies to the early decades of the 20th century as much as it does today. Oftentimes, social media influencers put on a perception of their life in order to appeal to their audience, when in reality, their life is much different. Celebrities also often hide parts of their life and it is possible that some put on a completely different persona, like how Evelyn Hugo did. The story also has LGBTQ themes and euthanasia themes, which are very relevant today.
I think this novel is a good example of contemporary young adult because Evelyn is faced with many struggles that many people are faced with today. The topics that are shown in the book are very modern in today's society. This book shows that people change and not everyone is the way you think they are. Everyone has their own story.
Do you believe in 100 years, this novel will be considered a "classic"? Will it stand the test of time and be something that students will be reading in an English class of the future? Why or why not?
What story elements (character, plot, mood, conflict, theme, etc.) are present in this book to make it "young adult"? What intrigued you the most about this book? What will you remember most about this book?

ReplyDeleteThat's so true; the theme of corruption in the film industry is especially relevant after the "Me Too" movement gained recognition.
