The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo 3

What components does your book have to make it a page-turner?  Or was this book a little slow to get started?  Was there a point where you just couldn't put it down?  Or did you struggle getting through it?  Please provide examples.

  1. he start of the book was a little slow for me but once Evelyn Hugo began sharing her story i was captivated. once she began to speak on how she had grown up in hell's kitchen with a dysfunctional family so she had to fight tooth and nail to get where she needed to be. That part of Evelyn keep me reading just wondering what she would do.

    2. I agree that Evelyn's whole life was crazy. She did some interesting things to get out of hell's kitchen. Wondering what she would do next kept me to want to read more and more, because you never quite new what Evelyn would do next, or what event or person would pop into her life.

    3. I agree that the character development and growth of Evelyn really captivated me. It was interesting to see how her life experiences changed her perception on things and how she grew as a person.

  2. The book started off slow but once Evelyn really started to open up to Monique and share her story, I was hooked. There was lots of foreshadowing about what Evelyn might do next and I needed to know.

    1. I agree with you that the book started off slow, but once she opened up, I didn't want to put it down, because there was always something new and interesting that Evelyn would share.

    2. Yes, I loved the foreshadowing between present time and back then i think the jumps were very well timed out and overall, a great story filler.

  3. I don't think I ever struggled to get through any point in the book, besides the first little bit, because it was a little slow. I think once I got to the part where Evelyn realized she loved Celia is where I didn't want to put the book down, because it was just something in Evelyn's life that wasn't planned and it was always changing, which made it more interesting.

    1. I agree but the Celia and Evelyn love story I wasn't as captivated with them as I thought I should be. I didn't like their little disagreements that lasted 2 pages and then they wouldn't talk for 6 years that plot was a little too dysfunctional for me personally which made the book a tad bit worse for me.

    2. I agree. I never struggled getting through the book. I also got hooked once Evelyn's love for Celia really began to unravel.

  4. I never really struggled to get through the book. The beginning was somewhat slow, but I think most books are like that until you get into the book. I was Interested in what Evelyn had to say the whole time and the plot twists that happened weren't expected for me. I never thought that she would love Celia St. James or say that she covered up Moniques dad's death. I didn't want to put the book down at the parts she was reminiscing about her old life and saying her hardships you never really knew what she would say especially because of how secretive she was and that kept me reading.

    1. I agree, I was never expecting the Celia St. James love story and each twist was something that drew me deeper into the story. I wanted to hear about each unique husband and I was always interested in how her seemingly happy marriages would turn south.

    2. I also wasn't expecting her love story with Celia St. James. At first, when the romance was introduced, I thought it would eventually disappear, so that her other relationships and marriages could be told. However, I was pleasantly surprised that their love story subsisted throughout.

  5. i struggled to get through this book mainly because i dont like romance in anyway shape or form so this book was difficult for me to get through I like books like No Exit where its action and ... cant spoil the book but this book just had no action because its a romance book but thats why i struggled with the book.

    1. I wasn't expecting this book to fit mostly in the romance genre. I thought it would be mostly a long story of drama and scandal. But as it played out, most of the drama and scandal was a result of the romance aspect. I can see why someone who doesn't like romance wouldn't like this book, because I think it best fits in the romance genre.

  6. This book starts off a little slow but right when Evelyn begins telling her stories I was interested. There was love, passion, drama, glamour, fights, everything. With each husband brought something new and it was very easy to see the growth of Evelyn's character as she experiences the dichotomy that is Hollywood. Every time a new issue arrived with Celia St. James I couldn't put it down. It was very hard to know which side to be on and where to stand for me which made it all the more interesting. And when Harry died, I was devastated. He was the one character I had put my full love and trust in, so when he died I had to keep reading to see what would happen.

    1. I agree that the book did start offf a little slow but I knew that if I kept reading that it wouold get good based of the article on the first page. I agree with the fact that Harry was a huge part of the book and I was also devastated when he died. I didnt like how that was the way Evelyn was connected to Monique.

  7. The book has an air of intrigue and mystery, and later suspense, that makes the book a page-turner. The first husband can be a bit of a slow start, but he's important to the overall narrative and showing Evelyn's starting point. With every other husband, there is something interesting and intriguing happening that can keep the reader hooked. From the 6th husband onward, the book slowed down a bit, but the narrative became more interesting, making it more difficult to put down.

  8. The book was a page turner because something was always going wrong for Evelyn. The book although started slow with the first husband but then the second husband the book just took off. Every husband she had always started off with a characteristic of that husband (Clever Rex North or Gullible Mick Riva). What made the book better was the news articles about what was going on and what the outside thought was going on with Evelyn even when it wasn't true. It was difficult setting the book down especially when you were in the middle of something big.

    1. I agree there was always a reason to keep reading because oncew on thing was resolved another one would start. I agree I loved the news articles so you could get information on what the people knew.

  9. From start to finish this book was a page turner. Evelyn had tons of drama going on from the first page. This book always had something going on. However, I was bored by Monique's parts of the book. I found myself waiting for it to go back to Evelyn. I couldn't put the book down for a lot of the story line. I found it very hard to put down when Celia and Evelyn would have a fight or disagreement and when Harry died. I also really liked how they included the news articles so that you could get a sense of what the people thought and what the poeple knew.

  10. The story was very sad, mostly, and sometimes that was difficult to get through. It was interesting and action-packed, but oftentimes, I wasn't in the mood for the depressing stories, and I would have to drag myself into reading it. Although, after I would start reading, I would get into it, and remember how interesting the plot was.

  11. I did not have a problem getting through this book. it was often a page-turner for me because the aspects of her life were always changing. you thought her life was going so perfectly with Celia then something would happen, and a new scandal begun. I really enjoyed all the different point of views. between Evelyn, Monique, and the news reporters it gave Evelyn's story greater details then she could've told herself.

  12. for me the start was slow and hard to understand but once i started to get in to it, it was easy to read and understand. for me it also wasnt really a page turner because i feel like there could have been more action and some better plot twists like evelyn being moniques mom.
