This book had many components that made it a page turner. It never stopped. Every time you would think Darby is safe someone else would turn out to be a bad guy. That made it a page turner because you wanted to know if and when she would come out alive and if she could also save Jay. There were many times in the book where the author left you on a cliff hanger which always made me want to read to the next chapter so I could find out what happened. This book was not slow starting at all. The blizzard came right from the start and within the second chapter Darby had already seen Jay in the van and was plotting a plan to attack. I did not struggle getting through the book. I read it in three days.
ReplyDeleteThe action right out of the beginning is definitely true. Even I didn't expect to see the main plot develop that fast but it did and it was a nice refresher from books that can start out boringly slow. It makes it very easy for readers to get hooked.
DeleteThis story is a classic example of what a page turner should be like. At every corner there was some new discovery that significantly impacted the plot, like when Ashley turned out to be brothers with Lars and in on the kidnapping, or when Darby realized she couldn't shoot Ashley in the building because everything was doused in gasoline and everyone would go up in flames. There was never a point where I was able to predict what was happening next. The action started almost immediately and I was actually shocked at how quickly we discovered the plot. Towards the end of almost every chapter (where some new discovery or cliffhanger was made) I had trouble putting it down. This book is great at keeping readers attention and I absolutely could've read the whole thing in one day if given the time. The only parts I struggled to get through were the intense gory parts because I do get slightly squeamish but other than that the story was great and definitely one to remember.
ReplyDeleteI also had trouble putting down this book after every chapter because there was always a cliff hanger and something new to discover. It made this book very exciting to read.
DeleteI also had a hard time with the gory parts because I don't usually read these types of books. However I also could have read this book in one day because of how much action and intensity it had.
DeleteThis book was a page turner because well you didnt know what was going to happen next because the book fooled me many times. I did struggle to get though the super gory parts but thats because the parts where super gory other than that i love this book and im a picky read so f i like it you mite aswell.
ReplyDeleteThis book also fooled me many times. I am someone who doesn't typically try and predict the ended of stories however this one I tried, and was very very wrong. I never really saw any of the plot twists coming and every chapter was like a fun new surprise to unwrap.
DeleteYes, the plot twists came out of left field. I never expected Darby to live given how much blood she lost and I'm wondering how Jay ended up getting away from the rest stop.
DeleteAt the begging of the book, the story felt slow when Darby is first getting to the rest stop I was waiting for something to happen. Once Darby discovers the child the book picked up pretty quickly and I did not want to put it down once more of the plot was revealed. After I found out about her getting the text to the police officer I did not put the book down until I finished it. Also, the amount of brutality that Ashely began to show towards the end made me worried for Darby and jay I was genuinely curious if they would make it out alive.
ReplyDeleteI agree the first 30 or so pages were very slow. I also struggled to put the book down. I found myself reading in other classes just to try to find out what happened next. Once one problem was explained and solved a new one would start which made it impossible to stop reading. It didn't help that Ashley was trying to guilt trip Darby for not working with him by saying that they would be a good couple. I found that very weird.
DeleteI don't think the book ever felt slow to me. I think it was weird how one chapter would be only about 10 minutes or so of the time in the book. I think every part after Darby had found Jay was intriguing to me and made me want to keep reading more and more. When Darby was figuring out, she couldn't trust everyone she thought she could and then Ashley going psycho on her at the end made me curious too if they would make it out alive.
DeleteAt the beginning of the book, it went really slow, and I felt like nothing was happen. After Darby found Jay in the van, I thought she was going to try to do something to Lars right away but she didn't. I think the reason it went so slow in the beginning is because an entire chapter would be like six minutes in the book. Towards the end when the plot started to clear up was when it got difficult for me to put the book down.
ReplyDeleteI agree. When a chapter was only like 15 minutes I thought it had been more like an hour. I thought it was a little unbelievable but it was also very good. I also thought some chapters were only about 30 minutes and it would turn out to be 2 hours. I thought the end was much easier to get through then the beginning.
DeleteI thought it was weird that she didn't tell the other characters or try to get the child out of the van. I understand that there would be a dangerous person in the room, but I still think she should have taken some kind of action much sooner.
DeleteThis book was easily a page turner. It was super easy to get through. It had such an intense plot line though that parts in other books that would be fast paced made this book in a way slow burn. It was so jam packed with plot twists and important events in such little time I found myself in a way thinking that certain parts were moving to slow. Like when she would go out to the nightmare children and look for a cell signal. I just found it to move so slow for such a minor event in the book. When Darby escaped from the bathroom and realized Jay was already gone I couldn't put the book down. I just sat and read for a long time until and had to put it down because the words were mushing in my brain. I finished the book the next day. This book was super fast paced and I really enjoyed reading it.
ReplyDeleteI think the book would either be going way too fast or way too slow which I didn't like. Also, at times I would find myself confused with how everyone says this book is "jam packed" with plot twists while there is good plot twists the slow part with none how they were all just sitting their bonding were utterly boring and the words just blended together.
DeleteThis book was a good page turner. I will say at the beginning the book moved fairly slowly which I get but it's kind of disappointed me for the rest of the book. One thing that confused me at the beginning and made me want to read more is how Darby left the rest stop every ten minutes to just wonder outside and rodent face / Asley would follow her. My thought was how Sandi and Ed didn't say anything about that. During the middle of the book, I loved seeing how all the drama unfolded and how Darby was supposed to die so many times but just didn't. I also loved the deaths and how they played out i could really picture them in my mind and I wanted to read more.
ReplyDeleteI also thought this book was a good page-turner. I also was confused in the beginning how no one thought it was suspicious how Darby would use the restroom so frequently for a while at a time.
DeleteThe suspense of the story and the twists revealed throughout are what made this book a page turner. Small details and foreshadowing keep the reader tuned in to every word that comes out of characters' mouths. The plot thickens every chapter, and the fact that the book takes place over the course of less than half a day. Ashley deceives both the reader and the main character throughout the story. This story had very good page-turning elements, and it was a fun read.
ReplyDeleteI agree this book was a fun read. There were many twists that made you want to keep reading. It's very intriguing how the book takes over the course of half a day, because there was just so much that happened, but I don't think it was unnecessary details, I think all the details added the perfect amount of suspense that the story needed.
DeleteWhat makes this story a page turner is all the twists and turns. You could think that Jay and Darby would be safe, and then an event would occur throwing them off. On the opposite side of that, when you thought that Darby was going to die, she would get out of the situation and survive. There were so many times I thought that this was the end and Darby wouldn't be able to save Jay, but then she would prove me wrong and just get back up again. I never really found any part of this book slow. I think every part made me want to keep reading more and more. I think the ending especially was when I couldn't put it down when everyone was getting killed.

DeleteI also wasn't sure if Darby was going to make it to the end. So many characters around her were dropping like flies, that I thought there was a possibility that the author might kill her off. I also thought it was suspicious how the author was writing from third person perspective when he could have written in first person. I thought he might have chosen to do that, so that he could kill her off later.
DeleteYes, the "twists and turns" were my favorite part. It kept me on my toes, and I couldn't wait to see what happened next.
DeleteI flew through this book in two days time. Every part of the story is easy to read and dripping with either tension or action. There's never a dull moment and I could turn towards the story for instant gratification. Even if at times, the story was predictable (Ashley being a kidnapper or Ashley still being alive from the fire), I still wanted to see how the plot would unfold.
ReplyDeleteI agree that some parts were predictable, but there were also a ton of parts that that I were very shocking. This book was easy to get into and the plot was great.
DeleteThe book was very intriguing in the beginning with her finding the girl in the van, but then I kind of started to get bored because she wasn't doing anything about it. But once she finally confirmed what she saw was real, I couldn't put it down. There were so many things that I never saw coming. This was a great book.
ReplyDeletei was always wanting to read more because i wanted to see what would happen to darby next and who was the bad guy. i think until darby found jay in the van it was a little slow to start but after she found jay it sped up pretty fast. i did not struggle through this book at all.
